I was struggling through a master's level grant writing course and hitting snag after snag in my own grant writing project. The text books for the course provided contradictory and confusing information that on the whole did not apply to the actual process of grant writing. I gave up and purchased Grant Writing for Dummie. I only wish I had gotten this book earlier. The book is well organized and walks you through the often convoluted process of researching, writing and submitting grant proposals. I appreciated the clear writing and colorful examples of how to phrase and document a grant proposal. I recommended the book to the professor but he was less than enthusiastic about the idea of replacing the standard class textbooks.

When approached to provide grant writing services, I thought I couldn't do it, then I found this book.

After purchasing, I picked a day to study this book completely and found it wasn't needed. The best feature is the easy reference format, I could simply flip to what I needed and work from there.

The web site listings, foundation break-downs and overall content got me on the right track.

This book will be helpful only if you are seeking a grant for a non-profit. I searched elsewhere for information on sponsorships and other available funding.

What is offered are the absolute basics for getting started on grant writing. Companies will not give your paper or proposal a second glance if you don't take the time to research their specific guidelines.

Buy this book, do your homework and you just might get that grant. It's a far better investment than the internet rip-offs for thirty of more dollars that claim to tell you how to get a grant.

From experience, I'll tell you now, there are no guarantees, each company decides, and this book will be a foot in the door.

Nowhere on the front or back cover does it say this book is about getting grants for not-for-profit agencies only. You have to read 3+ pages of the book until it says so.

I thought this book was absolutely wonderful. I have loved Michael Jackson all my life and this book helps people like me know more about what he went through. I thought the book was great and also I think MJ is the greatest.

Astrology for the millions should be one of your first basic books if you want to study astrology. And you do not need a computer to have your chart drawn. The book contains all the tables you need so you can go ahead. Not only the descriptions of the planets through the signs are revealing, the planetary phases (obscure period, periods of public rise, consolidation etc...) and transiting phases are a must know. In astrology for the millions you will find information you will not find easily in other books. So hasten you to get your copy of this one !

My favorite astrology book ever. I have the older hardback version with a 1940s copyright as well as the current version. Regardless of the copyrighted date the book is the best. The current version brings in examples of recent celebrities and politicians to help the reader understand traits and characteristics. Even though the writing style has been updated, it does not, in any way, make the book any less valuable. This is a fantastic book for beginners and intermediates to help develop and improve their chart delineation skills. If, after reading this book, a person can not create a logical and cohesive chart reading, then that person is just not trying very hard to learn astrology!

Astrology for the Millions is the book you need to have if you are pretty much convinced that all astrology is pure bunkum.

Used in conjunction with HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT (Lewi's other extant title) this book will reveal to you whether astrology has anything to tell you that you want to know.

In the early 1970's I started learning astrology with the Grant Lewi titles. Yes, they're simplistic, and yes they're out of date, and yes the new editions have lost something in translation, BUT - Lewi's approach can convince your friends you are not wasting your time fooling around with this stuff.

The amazing thing about these two books is that, despite the simplifications, they produce astonishingly accurate results.

I have just used Lewi's explanation of the Saturn Cycle which is presented in ASTROLOGY FOR THE MILLIONS in an essay "Astrology for Writers" on simegen.com aimed at convincing writing students to explore the potentials of this powerful tool in fiction writing. Thirty years, and I can't put this book down. I'm glad I bought it in hardcover to begin with!

I still have the charts I made out thirty years ago, following the directions in the book and using the chart forms the book provides for spotting the crucial years when transits co-incide. The results match the results of the Matrix Software I currently use, but I STILL read those charts on myself.

I recommend all the Grant Lewi titles to my writing students and my astrology students, but especially to those who are both.

This book is wonderful. I already "knew" how to play bridge, but I am taking a beginner course, and this is the book for the course. Now I am REALLY learning how to play. The writing is clear, she really stresses what's important, the exercises are fun not boring and support the material beautifully. She really is a great teacher more than just a writer.

This would be a great textbook in bidding for the bridge beginner. I have played bridge for years, and found it to be an excellent resource. Until reading this book, most of my bridge training was "seat of the pants". This book is very structured and really helped me to put together all of the bidding nuances that I was unclear about.

I just started playing bridge in October of 1999 and The Club Series by Audrey Grant was recommended to me by an ACBL Bridge Teacher. In just six months I have become a confidnet bridge player, and I attribute my quick learning of bridge to this well written book that has easy to follow sequential lessons that include, guidelines for play, easy to follow summaries, practice activities, numerous exercises, and many explained examples. I was so impressed with the Club Series on Bidding that I have purchased Audrey Grant's Diamond and Heart Series on play of the hand and defense. If you want to learn to play bridge the correct way, at your own pace, and have fun while doing it, then this is the book for you. Audrey Grant is a five-star teacher and writer when it comes to bridge. I'm purchasing a second copy of the Club Series: Bidding for my new bridge partner. Purchase this book or the entire series and you will be a better bridge player sooner than you think possible.

This is a must own book! It is so full of photos of Cary Grant and details so much of his life. I would call this a picture book, and promise you won't be disappointed! I had the privelege of meeting the author and having her sign my copy. She is a fellow eMail Warbride, is funny, witty, and a wonderful person. She has written several other books that are well worth owning as well. Do youself a favor, buy this book today! ...

I received this book as a gift. It serves as an excellent guide to one of the most graceful and wonderful men of Hollywood. The pictures are beautifully arranged and capture the essence of who Mr. Grant was. Even the youngest Cary Grant fan will want to own this book.

If you're only going to read five books on the Civil War - which is like saying, only eat one french fry - make this one of them. Grant's autobiography, written under excruciating conditions of financial pressure and failing health in the late 1880's, is one of the most unforgettable reads available about the American Civil War.
Terse, simple, and almost painfully modest, Grant takes us through his life - the schooling at West Point (he was too retiring to point out they'd got his middle name wrong at registration, and was mistakenly given the name Ulysses SIMPSON Grant which he used for the rest of his life). The bravery and initiative of the Mexican War. The long, lonely postings in the early '50's to California, a continent away from his wife and beloved young children. The depression, leaving the Army, trying to make it in civilian life, failing at almost everything he tried. Then the war begins in 1861 when Lincoln calls for volunteers. It's typical of Grant that he goes to a little midwest recruiting post and modestly says he might take command of something very small - a company, perhaps? This, for a West Point graduate. From then on the book ceases being merely very interesting and starts becoming a can't-put-down.
The simple and good-hearted soul of the man just shines through his words, and he doesn't get caught up badly in the mid-century Victorian fustery of so much Civil War writing. He tells you what happened and what he thought about it; I remember about Lee at Appomatox, he said that he felt like anything in world after Lee's surrender except gloating over so brave an army as Lee's who had fought so nobly for a cause - even though he also thought it was one of the worst causes for which men had ever fought. His prose just flows through the extraordinary events he helped channel - Shiloh, Vicksburg, The Battle of the Wilderness, the surrender, and all points in between. It's an irreplaceable and wonderful resource and you end up falling big-time for Ulysses S. Grant. Don't miss it.

I first read U.S. Grant's memoirs when I was a college student during the Vietnam War. It helped me a great deal to appreciate how horrific war was and still is and that it should only be suffered when the cause is truly worthwhile. It was in the American Civil War and World War II. It was not in the Vietnam War. It was not our finest hour.

But this book also got me hooked on the history of the American Civil War. It is in my judgment, after more than fifty years and reading perhaps a thousand volumes about this watershed event in our nation's history, the single best written and brutally honest work on that event. Especially so in that it was written first-hand by one of the principal characters in that national and human tragedy.

For those of you really interested in becoming a student of the American Civil War, I recommend it highly, after you read the American Heritage History of the Civil War and before you read Lee's Lieutenants by Douglas Southhall Freeman and the four book series by Bruce Catton.

If by that time you're not hooked and become a Civil War junkie, you never will be.

Written more as a military memoir than a personal, Grant proves to be an outstanding author as well as a General. Reading this set me off to find more about the General's personal life. I highly recommend to anyone interested in the Civil War, you won't be disappointed.

I attended a live performance of "Songs from the Mountain" at E-town in Boulder which was excellent and caused me to read some books about mountain life. This one, in particular, caught my eye and my interest. It is extremely well-written, heartfelt and endearing. I recommend it most highly!

Grant and Olinger write beautifully. They play off of one another in a way that is sparklingly easy and fun to read. It was a great deal like reading the transcript from a good comedy in some sections. I liked the book very much and felt as though I was saying goodbye to two new friends I'd grown very fond of when it ended. WRITE US A SEQUEL GUYS!

At first, I thought that He Mail/She Mail would be about the conflicts between the genders, but I was very wrong. Instead, it is a delightful and insightful book about the benefits of "anonymous" communication on the Internet where feelings and thoughts can be stated and expressed w/o anxiety.

A terrific and entertaining book for when you are in the mood for "light" reading. The ultimate book for reading by the pool.

I received this book as a gift from an employee for Christmas this year. It arrived two days before the holiday and I'd finished it by Christmas night. I had a really hard time putting it down. I find myself wondering if the two writers still converse, if they've ever met in real life, and if they plan to do more together. It was like eavesdropping with permission, or having a terrific dinner conversation with two old friends. I loved the book and love the fact that the money from its purchase went to charity.
